ABUJA, Nigeria – The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raised an urgent alert over the circulation of counterfeit Cialis 20mg tablets across Nigerian markets, warning that the fake products pose serious health risks to consumers.
The agency on Tuesday said the discovery was made during routine market surveillance by representatives of Chi Pharmaceutical Limited, the authorised distributor of the genuine Cialis 20mg tablets (NRN: 04-5196).
According to NAFDAC, the counterfeit versions are being sold at about ₦8,000 per pack, compared to the authentic product, which costs roughly ₦55,000.
A statement marked Public Alert No. 033/2025 reads: “The counterfeit tablets do not meet approved safety, packaging, or chemical specifications. Their composition is unknown, and their consumption may lead to harmful side effects or treatment failure.”
Genuine Cialis contains tadalafil, a medically approved drug for erectile dysfunction and pulmonary arterial hypertension in men.
“Consumers are advised to purchase medicines only from licensed pharmacies, verify NAFDAC registration numbers, and report any suspected counterfeit products,” the agency reiterated.
NAFDAC urged the public to report suspicious drug products through its official reporting channels or nearest state office.
