ABUJA, Nigeria – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the Preliminary Register of Voters for the 2027 general election online, expanding public access to the document as preparations for the polls continue.
The commission announced the development on Monday in a statement by its National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna. The register is available through INEC’s online platform, complementing the physical display exercise previously conducted at registration areas nationwide.
According to the commission, the physical display took place from 9 to 15 October 2026 in accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026. The exercise allowed registered voters to check their personal details and submit claims or objections where they identified errors or discrepancies. INEC said it decided to make the register available online following concerns raised by citizens and other stakeholders about access to the document.
The commission said the additional platform was intended to improve accessibility, promote transparency and strengthen public confidence in the electoral process. It added that claims and objections submitted during the verification exercise were still being processed ahead of the certification and publication of the Final Register of Voters.
INEC scheduled the release of the final register for 15 December 2026. The online publication provides another opportunity for registered voters to check their information ahead of the 2027 general election. Accurate voter records are important to electoral administration, helping to identify errors that may need to be corrected before the register is finalised.
The commission urged voters to use the available platform to verify their details and follow official announcements on the electoral process. However, the preliminary register is not the final certified list. Voters who identify discrepancies should follow INEC’s official instructions on submitting claims or objections within the applicable procedures and timelines.
