Plateau, Nigeria – The Plateau State Government has reactivated isolation centres and intensified disease surveillance as part of efforts to strengthen preparedness against a possible Ebola outbreak.
The state’s Commissioner for Health, Nicholas Ba’amlong, announced the measures during a press briefing in Jos on Monday. Ba’amlong said the government had directed its emergency preparedness team to assess safety measures at the airport and alert local government areas bordering neighbouring states.
He urged residents to maintain good hygiene, avoid contact with the blood and body fluids of suspected infected persons, and report possible cases promptly to health authorities. “Wash your hands regularly and avoid direct contact with the blood and body fluids of suspected infected persons,” the commissioner said.
He added that public cooperation was essential to preventing the spread of infectious diseases and urged residents to follow official public health guidance. The preparedness measures come amid heightened national attention on Ebola and efforts by state authorities to strengthen their capacity to detect and respond to potential public health threats.
