LAGOS, Nigeria – Lagos residents could gain access to three additional Blue Line rail stations by the end of February 2027, as the state government moves to extend services and improve public transport connectivity.
The planned expansion will add stations in FESTAC, Alakija and Trade Fair, increasing the number of operational stations on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line from five to eight, according to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).
LAMATA Managing Director Abimbola Akinajo announced the plan at the 2026 media parley organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the authority said the new stations would extend the line’s reach and provide more residents with an alternative to road transport. “The new stations — FESTAC, Alakija and Trade Fair — will extend the reach of the Blue Line and increase the number of operational stations from five to eight, marking another significant milestone in Lagos State’s drive to deliver an integrated, efficient and world-class public transportation system,” the statement said.
The Blue Line currently operates between Marina and Mile 2, with stops at National Theatre, Iganmu and Alaba. LAMATA said the expansion would strengthen connectivity and improve access to mass transit for residents along the extended corridor.
