ABUJA, Nigeria – The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has clarified that 14 nursing students at Madonna University were suspended while one was expelled over a viral TikTok video recorded in what appeared to be a hospital environment.
The clarification followed an earlier NANS statement that reported all 15 students had been expelled. The video, which circulated widely on social media, showed the students dancing with the caption, “No sick ooo, Na Gen Z full hospital.”
In a statement signed by its National President, Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, on Friday, NANS said it had obtained further details from the university and was correcting the information contained in its initial statement.
According to the association, 14 of the students were suspended for a specified period, while the student who reportedly made the viral post was expelled.
NANS said it recognised the university’s authority to enforce its regulations but appealed to the institution to reconsider the expulsion.
The students’ body urged the university management to replace the expulsion with a warning or another disciplinary measure, expressing concern about the potential impact of the sanction on the student’s education and future nursing career.
The association also advised students across the country to comply with the rules of their institutions and use appropriate channels to raise grievances or express concerns.
NANS reaffirmed its commitment to students’ welfare while stressing the need for discipline and respect for institutional authorities.
