KWARA, Nigeria – The Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has expelled 42 students for examination malpractice after investigations by the institution’s Examination Malpractice Committee.
The affected students comprise 31 Higher National Diploma (HND) and 11 National Diploma (ND) students drawn from various institutes and programmes within the polytechnic.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Principal Assistant Registrar, Academic Board Matters Division, Ibrahim Esin, said the students were found guilty of examination malpractice following due investigation.
Esin said the offences violated the Matriculation Oath sworn to by the students upon admission.
“The students were found guilty of the allegations against them after due investigation by the Examination Malpractice Committee. The offences contravened the Matriculation Oath sworn to by the students upon admission to the institution.”
He said the expulsions were approved in accordance with the provisions of the Polytechnic’s Students’ Handbook, effectively ending the affected students’ relationship with the institution.
The Institute of Finance and Management Studies recorded the highest number of expulsions, with 23 students affected.
It was followed by the Institute of Technology with eight students, while the Institute of Information and Communication Technology had four expulsions and the Institute of Health Technology had two.
One student from the Institute of General Studies and four students from the Centre for Continuing Education were also expelled.
The management directed all expelled students to return polytechnic property in their possession to their respective Heads of Department or other designated authorities.
Esin said the directive formed part of the institution’s decision following the conclusion of the disciplinary process.
“The expelled students are hereby directed to hand over all Polytechnic property in their possession to their respective Heads of Department or other designated authorities.”
