KADUNA, Nigeria — The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kaduna State University (KASU) chapter, has suspended its indefinite strike following the Kaduna State Government’s approval of the implementation and domestication of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement for academic staff.
The union announced the suspension after its congress on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Abubakar Abdullahi, and Secretary, Silas Bakut, the union said members unanimously resolved to suspend the industrial action effective 12:01 a.m. on Friday, September 18.
The decision followed Governor Uba Sani’s approval for the implementation and domestication of the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement for academic staff of the university.
According to the union, implementation will begin with the October 2026 salary.
The university’s governing council and management have also approved payment of nine months of accrued arrears, covering January to September.
ASUU-KASU commended the Kaduna State Government, its negotiation team and university management for resolving the dispute through what it described as constructive engagement.
The union also expressed appreciation for the resolution of the matter without intimidation or threats.
The dispute had resulted in an indefinite strike by academic staff at the university over the implementation and domestication of the agreement.
With the suspension taking effect on Friday, academic activities at Kaduna State University are expected to resume.
The development provides for the implementation of the agreed terms and payment of the accrued nine-month arrears, subject to the arrangements approved by the state government, university management and the union.
