ABUJA, Nigeria – As the world marks World Arthritis Day 2025, Nigerian health influencer and physician, Dr. Chinonso Egemba, popularly known as Aproko Doctor, has sounded the alarm on the growing impact of arthritis among young Nigerians.
In a post shared via X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, Dr. Egemba stressed that arthritis is “not just a disease of the elderly,” but one that is increasingly threatening the dreams of young footballers, dancers, and entrepreneurs.
“We think arthritis is just ordinary body pain for our parents,” he wrote. “But I’ve seen the dreams of young Nigerians put on hold by this disease. Arthritis doesn’t care about your age; it cares about your joints.”
Referencing the 2025 World Arthritis Day theme, “Achieve Your Art,” Egemba urged Nigerians with rheumatic diseases to continue pursuing their goals while prioritising joint health through early diagnosis and lifestyle changes.
He advised adopting low-impact exercises like brisk walking, maintaining a healthy weight, and eating anti-inflammatory foods such as Titus’s fish, Ugwu, ginger, and turmeric.
“Movement is medicine. The right exercise strengthens muscles that protect your joints,” he said. “Your kitchen is a pharmacy—choose food that heals.”
He also highlighted mental health awareness for arthritis patients, encouraging them to seek emotional support and professional help when needed.
“Arthritis can be exhausting. Talk to someone you trust and build a support system,” he added.
