JIGAWA, Nigeria — The Jigawa State Government has signed a partnership agreement with Agrighar India to enhance women-led, technology-driven agriculture and promote inclusive agribusiness across the state.
The development was confirmed in a statement on Saturday by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Umar Namadi, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the visiting Agrighar delegation in Dutse.
Governor Namadi described the Agrighar Scoping Study, conducted across ten local government areas, as a milestone toward transforming rural livelihoods and positioning Jigawa as a major agricultural hub.
“This study reflects our vision to empower farmers, women, and youth through modern farming systems. The commitment shown by your team gives us confidence that this is a partnership for progress,” Namadi said.
The Agrighar team, led by Dr Sowmini Sunkara, visited key value chains including rice, groundnut, cassava, hibiscus, dairy, and fisheries, engaging with stakeholders to assess challenges and opportunities.
“Our field interactions showed the eagerness of local cooperatives to innovate. Jigawa can lead the future of community-based agribusiness,” Dr Sunkara stated.
