ABUJA, Nigeria – Residents in several parts of the Federal Capital Territory are experiencing electricity disruptions following the failure of a major transformer at the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s (TCN) 132/33kV Apo Transmission Substation.
TCN disclosed the development on Wednesday, saying preliminary investigations linked the outage to oil leakage from the Red Phase high-voltage bushing of the 100MVA TR4 transformer, which triggered the equipment to trip.
The incident has interrupted power supply on four 33kV feeders—H31, H33, H35 and H37—affecting customers supplied through the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
“Our maintenance crew are carrying out a detailed investigation on the transformer to determine the exact cause of the tripping and facilitate prompt repairs,” the company said in a statement.
TCN apologised for the disruption and assured affected customers that engineers were working to restore bulk electricity supply through the damaged transformer as quickly as possible.
The company said additional updates would be provided as repair work progresses.
