PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria – The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced rehabilitation of four vandalised transmission towers along the Afam, IPP and Elelenwo 132kV circuit transmission lines in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The rehabilitation is aimed at restoring the reliability of electricity transmission along the corridor after critical components of the towers were removed.
In a statement on Wednesday, TCN said its linesmen discovered on August 6 that critical bracing members had been removed from towers T50, T51, T52 and T53.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, TCN Head of Lines, Azur Lucky, called for stronger community involvement in protecting electricity infrastructure.
He urged residents to support efforts to prevent vandalism, warning of the potential impact of damaged transmission infrastructure on reliable electricity supply.
“The company will do everything possible to ensure the timely completion of the rehabilitation works,” TCN said.
“Being a socially responsible organisation, one of the things we do at PHED is to ensure that we touch the lives of our customers. It is not only about collecting bills; we also think about what we can do to impact society,” she said
