Education Minister, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa launches the Hire From Nigeria campaign in Abuja.
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Hire from Nigeria campaign has been launched by the Federal Government to connect Nigerian professionals with global employment opportunities while enabling them to work remotely from within the country, as part of efforts to create one million export-linked jobs by 2030.
Minister of Education Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa unveiled the initiative on Monday, describing it as a key pillar of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at transforming Nigeria’s youthful population into a globally competitive workforce.
The campaign is being implemented through the National Talent Export Programme (NATEP) and seeks to position Nigeria as a leading source of skilled talent for international employers without requiring professionals to emigrate.
Alausa said the programme aligns with the government’s strategy of creating sustainable employment by equipping young Nigerians with industry-relevant skills capable of meeting global labour market demands.
“We are building a workforce that is globally competitive and capable of securing international opportunities while contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth,” the minister said.
According to him, more than 200,000 Nigerians are currently undergoing training in over 1,200 skills development centres nationwide, with the curriculum redesigned to emphasise practical learning through an 80 per cent practical and 20 per cent theoretical training model.
The minister also announced plans for a Digital Technology Academy, being developed in partnership with the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, to train more than 35,000 Nigerians in software engineering, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing and other emerging digital technologies.
Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Dr Jumoke Oduwole said Nigeria’s expanding technology ecosystem, youthful workforce and growing services sector provide a strong foundation for attracting international contracts, investment and export earnings.
