KWARA, Nigeria – The Kwara State Government begins a 10-day vaccination campaign to immunise over 1.8 million children against measles, rubella, and polio, in partnership with UNICEF and the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Flagging off the exercise in Ilorin, First Lady Amb. Prof. Olufolake AbdulRazaq called the campaign “a life-saving effort for Kwara families,” urging parents to ensure full vaccination.
“Only about 60% of Nigerian children receive their first measles vaccine dose, and just 38% get the second. This campaign will close that gap,” she said.
Health Commissioner Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam described the drive as “a transformative step to save lives,” while Prof. Nusirat Elelu, Executive Secretary of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, confirmed that 8,600 trained personnel are deployed statewide.
Elelu reaffirmed that immunisation and antenatal services remain free in all primary health centres, commending Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and partners for prioritising maternal and child health.
