LAGOS, Nigeria – A Lagos truck collision has claimed the life of a dispatch rider after two trucks allegedly engaged in reckless driving collided along the Ijesha inward Mile 2 corridor, prompting renewed calls for stricter compliance with road safety regulations.
The fatal crash occurred on Saturday and involved a FAW truck with registration number T-30364LA, an Iveco truck with registration KSF 958 XV, and the dispatch rider, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
In a statement, LASEMA says its Eagle Response Team responds promptly to the emergency after receiving reports of the accident.
Preliminary investigations indicate that both truck drivers were driving recklessly while competing for the right of way.
According to the agency, the FAW truck collided with the Iveco truck during the struggle for road space, forcing the Iveco truck to strike the dispatch rider from behind.
The rider dies at the scene.
Police officers from the Okota Division of the Nigeria Police Force evacuate the victim’s body to a morgue for identification and other necessary procedures.
Emergency responders later move both trucks to a designated lay-by to restore the free flow of traffic and prevent further obstruction along the busy highway.
Personnel from LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team and the Nigeria Police Force complete the rescue and traffic management operation before declaring the road safe for motorists.
LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, extends condolences to the deceased’s family and urges motorists to obey traffic regulations.

He reaffirms the Lagos State Government’s commitment to protecting all road users, particularly vulnerable groups such as dispatch riders, motorcyclists and pedestrians.
LASEMA also advises commercial drivers to avoid reckless driving, dangerous overtaking and unnecessary competition for lanes, warning that responsible driving remains essential to reducing road traffic crashes across the state.
