Governor Siminalaye Fubara
PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria – Rivers State Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara has pledged to construct a standard hospital in Etche Local Government Area before the end of his administration, reaffirming his government’s commitment to improving healthcare access across the state.
Fubara made the promise on Tuesday while inaugurating the 12.1-kilometre Egwi-Afara-Mba Road in Etche, describing healthcare as one of the priorities his administration would not compromise despite the limited time remaining in office.
“One aspect that we will not leave no matter how tight it is to us is the issue of healthcare,” the governor said.
He noted that his administration had already rehabilitated and reconstructed zonal hospitals in Bori, Omoku and Degema, with Etche remaining the only outstanding location.
“But let me promise you that by the special grace of God, before we exit, there will be a standard hospital to cater for the people of Etche and Omuma,” he added.
The governor also assured traditional leaders that his administration would consider constructing the road leading to Ndash in honour of the Onye Ishi Etche, Eze Samuel Amaechi.
Fubara described the newly commissioned road as a strategic investment that would improve connectivity and economic activities within the area.
He recalled that the project commenced in 2024 amid significant challenges but was sustained to completion despite difficult circumstances.
“It was a long and difficult project, but I said even while we are going through these challenges, we still have to be working, because at the end of the day, what posterity records is not the reason for your failures but the little things that you achieved,” he said.
