LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State Government has launched the Omi Eko Project consultancy phase, marking a significant step towards modernising water transportation through electric ferries, improved infrastructure and sustainable mobility.
The Project Management, Operations and Design (PMOD) Consultancy officially begins on Thursday with a kick-off meeting in Lagos, bringing together government officials, development partners and consultants responsible for delivering the ambitious waterways initiative.
Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi describes the consultancy as a major milestone that will provide the technical leadership, operational planning and project management expertise required for successful implementation.
“The Omi Eko Project represents one of the most ambitious investments in inland waterways transportation in Africa,” Osiyemi says.
“Beyond modern infrastructure and electric ferry technology, the project is designed to improve connectivity, reduce travel time, enhance passenger safety, stimulate economic activities and contribute meaningfully to environmental sustainability through cleaner transport solutions.”
