ABUJA, Nigeria – The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has recalled Ola-Ola Authentic Pounded Yam (Iyan) Instant after discovering it contains undeclared milk, warning that the product could trigger severe or life-threatening allergic reactions in people with milk allergies.
The food recall was issued on 26 June after a consumer complaint prompted an investigation. The CFIA said the affected product is being removed from the Canadian market because milk is present in the product but is not listed on the label.
“The affected product is being recalled from the marketplace because it contains milk, which is not declared on the label,” the agency said.
The recalled product is packaged in 1.815kg bags with UPC 6 50655 49687 3. The recall applies to all batches where milk is not declared as an ingredient.
The agency warned consumers with milk allergies or sensitivities not to eat the product, stressing that exposure could cause serious or potentially fatal allergic reactions.
Consumers have been advised not to use, sell, distribute or serve the affected product. Instead, they should dispose of it safely or return it to the retailer where it was purchased.
The agency added that it has launched a food safety investigation to determine whether additional products may also be affected. It is also monitoring the effectiveness of the recall to ensure the product is removed from store shelves.
Milk is classified as one of Canada’s priority food allergens and must be clearly declared on food labels under federal food safety regulations. Undeclared allergens remain one of the leading causes of food recalls in Canada because they pose significant health risks to people with food allergies.
The CFIA routinely issues recall notices to protect consumers and prevent exposure to unsafe food products.
