ABUJA, Nigeria – Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have disrupted a suspected cult initiation exercise in Isara-Remo and arrested 30 suspects during a coordinated raid on an uncompleted building used for the gathering.
The command disclosed the operation in a statement issued on Thursday by its spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.
According to him, the raid was carried out by officers of the Violent Crime Response Unit working alongside detectives from the Isara Area Command and Isara Division following actionable intelligence.
Babaseyi said security operatives received information that a group of suspected cult members had assembled at the location for initiation rites and other unlawful activities.
“The operation was carried out following credible intelligence that a group of suspected hoodlums had converged at an uncompleted building in Isara-Remo for unlawful activities involving initiation attempts, alcohol consumption and cult-related gatherings,” he said.
Police officers stormed the location, dispersed the gathering and arrested 30 suspects while several others reportedly fled the scene.
The command also recovered four vehicles allegedly abandoned during the escape, alongside a jackknife, a local drum, a traditional rattle known as sekere, and bottles believed to have been used during the gathering.
Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni commended the operatives for what he described as a swift and professional response.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and warned that cultism and other criminal activities would not be tolerated in any part of Ogun State.
The police chief also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious gatherings and security threats to law enforcement agencies.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of the suspects’ involvement in cult-related activities and possible prosecution.
