TARABA, Nigeria – Troops of the Nigerian Army arrest a 51-year-old man accused of defrauding job seekers of more than N3.6 million through a fake military recruitment scheme in Taraba State.
The suspect, identified as Felix Yadeh, is arrested at Bantaje Village in Wukari Local Government Area by local vigilante members before being handed over to troops at the Forward Operating Base in Wukari.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Umar Muhammad, preliminary investigations show the suspect allegedly collected N3,627,000 from unsuspecting victims under the pretence of securing recruitment slots into the Army.
“During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed that his younger brother allegedly directed him to collect the money from victims as purported recruitment fees for enlistment into the Nigerian Army,” the statement says.

Military authorities say the suspect and recover items remain in custody as investigations continue to uncover possible accomplices and determine the full scale of the alleged fraud.
Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended troops and local vigilante members for their vigilance.
Akaliro warns Nigerians against falling prey to recruitment scammers, stressing that enlistment into the Nigerian Army remains free, transparent and merit-based.
The brigade reiterates its commitment to combating criminal activities and safeguarding lives and property across Taraba and neighbouring states.
