The Niger State Government has announced new restrictions on vehicular movement within the state capital, limiting movement from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. as part of efforts to address rising insecurity in the region.
Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago made the announcement during a security stakeholders’ meeting attended by traditional rulers and relevant security agencies held across the state.
According to Governor Bago, the directive is aimed at curbing the security challenges that have been affecting the state. However, he clarified that the movement restriction does not apply to emergency services or individuals seeking urgent medical attention.
In a bid to strengthen internal security, the governor also directed traditional rulers — including district heads and ward leaders — to begin the registration and documentation of all visitors entering their communities.
Governor Bago further issued a stern warning to residents of the state capital, stating that anyone found harbouring criminals or drug addicts will have their homes demolished as a punitive measure.
The new security directive is part of broader measures by the Niger State government to restore peace and ensure the safety of lives and property within the state.
