Army Apologizes for 16-Year-Old’s Death During Kaduna Protest

The Nigerian Army has expressed regret over the death of 16-year-old Ismail Mohammed in Kaduna, attributing it to an unfortunate incident.

Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement, explained that troops responding to a distress call encountered a chaotic scene with hoodlums burning tires and attacking security personnel.

“A soldier fired a warning shot, which tragically struck Mohammed,” Nwachukwu said.

“The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, has dispatched a high-level delegation led by Maj Gen Lander Saraso to offer condolences to the family. The soldier responsible has been arrested and is under investigation. Mohammed was buried according to Islamic rites, with senior military officials in attendance.”
