ILORIN, Nigeria – Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq establishes a high-level security committee to tackle rising banditry and kidnappings following deadly attacks in parts of the state.
The panel, chaired by retired Major General G.A. Wahab, comprises senior military officers and police officials tasked with strengthening security strategies.
The move came on Friday after suspected terrorists, linked to Boko Haram, parade 176 abducted women and children and issue ransom threats.
Police spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi confirms a separate attack in Kaiama Local Government Area where gunmen kill five forest guards and abduct two others.
“Operatives repel the attackers after they destroy a patrol vehicle,” she says.
Governor’s spokesperson Ibraheem Abdullateef says the committee forms part of broader efforts to restore peace and strengthen local security frameworks.
Authorities say the initiative will focus on intelligence gathering, rapid response and community engagement to curb violence.
The government reiterates its commitment to safeguarding lives and property amid escalating security threats.
