Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari
ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria warns that inadequate financing is undermining efforts to transform food systems across West Africa amid rising climate pressures.
At a regional forum, Agriculture Minister Abubakar Kyari says access to funding remains the biggest barrier to agroecology and food security.
Represented by Ibrahim Tanimu, the minister urges stakeholders to address policy gaps limiting investment and leverage the African Continental Free Trade Agreement for regional trade.
“Financing remains the single greatest bottleneck,” he says.
Despite a 59 per cent rise in Nigeria’s agriculture budget, allocations across the region still fall short of targets set under the Malabo Declaration.
The forum brings together ECOWAS states, development partners and civil society groups to chart a path toward sustainable food systems.
