EDO, Nigeria – Police in Edo State have opened a full investigation into a viral video showing a student being bullied at Igbinedion Secondary School in Benin City.
In a statement released Saturday, the Edo State Police Command says Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika orders an immediate inquiry into the incident after the disturbing footage spreads widely online.
Police spokesperson ASP Eno Ikoedem confirms that the Divisional Police Officer responsible for the area has been directed to visit the school and conduct a detailed investigation.
According to the statement, the school authorities have already taken disciplinary action by expelling the students involved in the bullying incident.
However, the police emphasise that the expulsion does not replace legal accountability.
“The perpetrators involved in the bullying incident will be arrested and made to face the law accordingly, in line with their respective ages and in accordance with the provisions of the law,” the statement says.
The command strongly condemns bullying and violence among students, warning that such actions will not be tolerated.
“The Edo State Police Command totally condemns acts of bullying, violence, or intimidation among students, and anyone found culpable will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” the statement adds.
Authorities urge members of the public to remain calm while the investigation continues and to provide credible information that may assist the probe.
Police say the investigation aims to ensure justice for the victim while discouraging similar incidents across schools in the state.
