LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) records 173 emergency incidents across Lagos State between January and February 2026, with road traffic accidents accounting for the largest share of cases.
In a statement released on Saturday, the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, says the figures reflect ongoing disaster response and risk-reduction efforts across the state.
“A total of 173 emergency incidents were recorded across Lagos State within the two-month period,” Oke-Osanyintolu says, noting that incidents declined slightly from 93 cases in January to 80 in February.
According to the agency’s analysis, road traffic accidents remain the leading emergency category, with 56 incidents recorded. Of these, 53 involve vehicle collisions, while three cases involve buses or cars catching fire.
Truck and tanker-related incidents follow with 35 cases, including 27 crashes, four breakdowns, two fire outbreaks, and two fallen containers.
LASEMA also reports 55 other emergencies, including 47 fire outbreaks and two building collapses. The agency records one tanker spillage, while no explosion incidents occur during the period.
Geographically, Ikeja records the highest number of incidents with 31 cases, followed by Kosofe with 18 and Alimosho with 15.
Other affected areas include Lagos Island (13), Eti-Osa and Mushin (12 each), and Epe (11). Additional incidents occur across Oshodi-Isolo, Shomolu, Lagos Mainland, Ikorodu, and Ifako-Ijaiye, while Ibeju-Lekki, Apapa, and Ajeromi-Ifelodun record fewer cases.
The agency says the data highlights the need for improved road safety, fire prevention measures, and coordinated emergency response across Lagos.
