Ogun Lawmakers Pledge Support for World Bank Rural Healthcare Reforms

OGUN, Nigeria – The Ogun State House of Assembly pledges sustained legislative backing for reforms aimed at improving rural healthcare delivery, assuring a World Bank–led delegation of full cooperation.
Speaker Oludaisi Elemide gave the assurance on Friday in Abeokuta during a courtesy visit by officials of the World Bank, federal ministries and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum. The delegation reviews public financial management practices at the primary healthcare level across selected local governments.

Elemide reaffirms the Assembly’s readiness to support initiatives that enhance transparency, accountability and service delivery. “We are irrevocably committed to reforms that strengthen healthcare for our people,” he says.
He explains that while lawmakers approve budgets and provide oversight, fund release remains the responsibility of the executive arm. The speaker commends Governor Dapo Abiodun for renovating and reconstructing primary healthcare centres, expanding access in rural communities.
However, Elemide calls for improved funding flow and increased recruitment of qualified medical personnel to address manpower gaps.

Delegation leader Maxwell Dapaah acknowledges visible infrastructure improvements but flags operational challenges, including weak financial controls and lack of automated patient records.
“These concerns have been escalated to the executive for policy response,” Dapaah says.
