LAGOS, Nigeria – The Nigeria Customs Service intercepts 25 kilograms of cocaine worth more than ₦1 billion at the Seme border, arresting one suspect in a pre-dawn operation along the Lagos border corridor.
Customs officers stop a Toyota Highlander vehicle along the Badagry–Seme axis at about 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, following actionable intelligence, according to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi on Friday.
Represented by Deputy Comptroller-General Timi Bomodi, Adeniyi, details the operation.
“Our officers intercepted 22 packages of substances suspected to be cocaine, weighing a total of 25 kilograms,” Adeniyi says.
He attributes the success to intelligence-led enforcement and swift coordination by operatives of the Seme Area Command.
“I commend the professionalism, alertness, and commitment displayed by our officers. This operation demonstrates our resolve to safeguard our borders and protect society from narcotic trafficking,” he adds.
Adeniyi notes that the seizure aligns with Section 55(1)(c) of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023, which mandates the agency to enforce prohibitions that protect public health and safety.
He says the handover reflects strong inter-agency collaboration and intelligence sharing between Customs and NDLEA.
“Our officers remain the first line of defence against threats that destroy lives, fuel crime, and undermine national wellbeing,” Adeniyi says.
Customs reaffirm their commitment to border security and professionalism, assuring the public of sustained efforts against drug trafficking and illicit trade.
