LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State Government intensifies oversight of health facilities and urges residents to verify accreditation as part of efforts to improve patient safety and service quality.
At a community town hall in Epe, the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) reinforces its mandate to regulate, monitor and accredit public and private health centres across the state.
Permanent Secretary Abiola Idowu, represented by Director of Monitoring and Inspection Olayinka Daniel, on Thursday says community engagement is essential to effective healthcare regulation.
“We realised we left behind the most important stakeholders — the community members,” Idowu says. “This engagement bridges that gap and keeps residents informed about safe healthcare delivery.”
HEFAMAA introduces a QR-code verification system and official accreditation logo, allowing residents to confirm a facility’s status in real time and identify compliant centres easily.
Idowu warns against patronising unregistered facilities, citing risks from unqualified practitioners and unsafe practices. She adds that regular inspections remain central to protecting public health.
Epe Local Government Vice Chairman Sikiru Owolomose commends the initiative, calling for decentralised collaboration to strengthen grassroots awareness and compliance.
The Lagos State Government says sustained regulation, public participation and transparency remain key to eliminating quackery and ensuring quality healthcare for residents.
