FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike
ABUJA, Nigeria – Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has pledged to transform Abuja into a world-class capital as he launched two major road projects in Mabushi District on Monday.
The projects, ILS 02 and ILS 03 road schemes—together with the newly designated Timipre Sylva Street—form part of Wike’s blueprint to deliver infrastructure that will place Abuja “in competition with other known cities of the world” before President Bola Tinubu completes his first term.
Wike said the projects were aligned with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, covering road transport, healthcare, education, and youth development.
Defending the heavy investment in roads, the minister argued that modern infrastructure was indispensable to any credible capital city. “Proper transport links are the foundation of a serious world capital,” Wike told dignitaries and contractors at the launch.
He assured residents that the era of abandoned projects was over. “Don’t bring projects when you don’t have the money. If you award contracts without funding, you only raise false hopes,” he said.
After the ceremony, Wike toured ongoing construction at Dakibiyu and Gishiri. While satisfied with the progress on judges’ quarters, he expressed concern over delays at the Court of Appeal complex, summoning the contractor for urgent talks.
He stressed that adequate housing for judicial officers was vital for independence. “Judges should not live among criminals,” he said.
