JIGAWA, Nigeria – Jigawa State commences medical screening for intending pilgrims as preparations intensify for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage, officials say.
The screening exercise begins on Tuesday at Hadejia General Hospital under the supervision of the Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board.
Director General Umar Labbo says the process is mandatory and aimed at safeguarding the health and safety of pilgrims in line with Saudi Arabian regulations.
“Only medically fit pilgrims will be permitted to perform Hajj,” Labbo says, stressing strict adherence to international health requirements.
The board assures transparency and fairness throughout the screening process, urging cooperation from participants.
First-time pilgrim Aisha Mohammed describes the exercise as smooth and reassuring.
“I’m feeling great, alhamdulillah. The medical team was very professional,” she says.
Another intending pilgrim, Abdullahi Yusuf, says the screening is thorough but necessary.
“I’ve waited years for this opportunity. I appreciate the board’s efforts,” he says.
Officials say preparations will continue to ensure pilgrims are fully ready for the spiritual journey.
