ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) disburses more than ₦1.33 billion to the University of Lagos to support students during the 2025/2026 academic session.
NELFUND confirms that ₦1,326,550,000 is transferred to UNILAG on January 19, 2026, covering institutional fees and upkeep for 6,308 verified undergraduate students.
The agency says all beneficiaries successfully completed the loan application and validation process, with records compiled strictly from authenticated data supplied by the university.
NELFUND stresses that once funds reach an institution, eligible students should face no obstacles to registration or class attendance, as the loans are meant to be applied immediately.
Managing Director and Chief Executive, Akintunde Sawyerr, reiterates the agency’s commitment to efficiency and transparency.
“NELFUND remains fully committed to ensuring that approved student loan funds are disbursed promptly and applied appropriately,” Sawyerr says.
He adds that the agency works closely with university authorities to reconcile student lists, close administrative gaps and ensure that no qualified student is disadvantaged.
The statement, issued by NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, urges students to rely solely on official updates from the fund or their institutions.
Students seeking clarification are advised to contact their university bursary or student affairs offices directly.
