Recovered therapeutic food packs meant for children
BORNO, Nigeria – Borno State Police Command has arrested five suspects with 7,871 therapeutic food packs meant for malnourished children.
Police spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso in a statement on Sunday said the arrests were made during separate operations in Maiduguri. “The command has recorded another success in its sustained fight against crime,” Daso stated.
On 12 April, operatives intercepted a Sharon Galaxy vehicle carrying 3,314 packs of ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) at Njimtilo.
Two suspects were arrested. On 9 June, another 4,557 packs were recovered from a Volkswagen Golf car at Legacy Estate, leading to three more arrests.
The suspects have been charged in court, while the recovered food has been handed to Borno’s Health Commissioner for distribution.
Police urged residents to report suspicious activities. “We call on the public to remain vigilant,” Daso said.
This is not the first case of aid diversion in Borno. In 2017, a Federal High Court jailed two officials for misappropriating rice meant for displaced persons.
The police said the latest arrests underscore the command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable populations, especially malnourished children reliant on therapeutic food aid.
