ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria will experience a mix of dust haze, sunny conditions and isolated thunderstorms from Monday to Wednesday, according to the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).
In its latest weather outlook released in Abuja on Monday, NiMet says moderate dust haze will affect parts of Kebbi and Kano states, reducing visibility to between two and five kilometres.
The agency forecasts sunny and hazy skies across much of the northern region, while similar conditions are expected over the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State in the central region.
“For the southern region, sunny skies with patches of cloud are anticipated, with prospects of afternoon or evening thunderstorms and light rains,” NiMet says, naming Lagos, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom among affected states.
By Tuesday, slight dust haze persists in parts of the North, while isolated thunderstorms may develop over Plateau State.
NiMet warns that suspended dust particles pose health risks, particularly for people with asthma and respiratory conditions.
Reduced visibility could also affect road travel and aviation, prompting the agency to advise motorists to drive cautiously and airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports.
By Wednesday, sunny and hazy conditions dominate the North and central regions, while southern states may see further thunderstorms.
NiMet urges Nigerians to remain alert and follow official weather updates.
