KANO, Nigeria – Police in Kano disrupt a potential security threat after seizing suspected explosive materials and illegal drugs during coordinated operations across the metropolis, leading to the arrest of a key suspect.
The police spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, says the operations, carried out on Friday, involve intelligence-led raids by specialised units responding to emerging security risks.
Explosive Ordnance Disposal experts examine intercepted packages and discover detonating cords, suspected cannabis, and large quantities of Exol tablets. Investigations immediately commence to trace the origin and intended use of the materials.
In a follow-up operation, anti-crime surveillance officers stop a tricycle rider in Sani Mainagge, Gwale Local Government Area, where they uncover thousands of electric detonators concealed inside heavy-duty components.
Further intelligence leads to the arrest of Ibrahim Garba, 49, from Zamfara State, popularly known as Manyan Baki. Police say he admits coordinating the movement of the items from Nasarawa State to undisclosed locations.
The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, commends officers for their vigilance and urges residents to remain alert.
“The public is advised not to touch any suspicious item, keep a safe distance, and immediately report it to the police,” Kiyawa says.
Authorities stress that community cooperation remains critical in preventing crime and safeguarding public safety in densely populated urban areas.
