LAGOS, Nigeria – A modern radiology X-ray machine is commissioned at General Hospital, Odan, Lagos, as Senator Wasiu Eshinlokun pledges an additional ₦1 billion to upgrade facilities at the historic health institution.
The donation, delivered in partnership with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), targets improved diagnostic capacity at one of Nigeria’s oldest public hospitals. Speaking at the commissioning on Thursday, Eshinlokun says the intervention strengthens healthcare delivery and reduces avoidable referrals.
“This investment improves infrastructure, enhances patient care and helps sustain the hospital’s status as a model of excellence,” the senator says, describing health as a cornerstone of sustainable development.
According to the lawmaker, two new Primary Health Centres at Ojo-Giwa and Itire-Ikate have received approval, with designs completed and contracts already awarded. He adds that further upgrades at General Hospital Odan are planned before the current project cycle ends in March.
Prof. Abayomi describes General Hospital Odan as the flagship of Lagos healthcare and one of the oldest general hospitals in Nigeria. “Access to functional diagnostic equipment is critical,” he says. “Doctors often refer patients elsewhere for imaging. This X-ray machine significantly eases that burden.”
