TARABA, Nigeria – Nigerian Army troops have successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt in Taraba State, rescuing three abducted victims during a swift intelligence-led operation.
Soldiers of the 6 Brigade, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, intercept suspected kidnappers in Karim Lamido Local Government Area on January 5, 2026, following credible intelligence about criminal movements around Sangai Village, Bachama Ward.
According to the brigade’s spokesperson, Captain Umar Muhammad, troops mobilise immediately after receiving reports from residents of Jeb Jeb town, tracking the suspects towards the Taraba–Plateau boundary.
“On sighting advancing troops, the kidnappers abandon their victims and flee into surrounding bush paths,” Muhammad says.
The Army confirms that three victims—Nimron Umar Ab (25), Safaras Ibrahim (20), and Habila Yunusa (23)—are rescued unharmed and placed under military care for documentation and psychosocial support before reunion with their families.
Commending the operation, 6 Brigade Commander Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa reaffirms the Army’s commitment to sustained security operations across Taraba.
“Our troops remain resolute in denying criminal elements freedom of action. Community cooperation remains critical,” Uwa says.
