KWARA, Nigeria – Kwara State Police arrest three suspects over an alleged arson attack on the Ilorin residence of a traditional worshipper, following claims of threats linked to religious differences.
The arrests follow a complaint by Mrs T. A. Olorisha, a traditional worshipper in the Isale Koko area of Ilorin, who reports that her home is set ablaze on the evening of January 1, 2026, while she is away. She reports the incident the following day at the C Division Police Station, Oja Oba.
Police Public Relations Officer Toun Ejire-Adeyemi confirms the development, saying the command launches a “thorough investigation into a suspected act of arson” at Isale Koko. She adds that officers are aware of a video circulating online in which an elderly woman claims her residence is completely razed by fire.
According to the complainant, she received threats in November 2025 from individuals allegedly angered by her religious practices. Police sources say three suspects are now in custody and assisting investigators, while efforts continue to identify and arrest other accomplices.
Although no life is lost because no one is inside the building at the time, authorities say the extent of property damage is yet to be determined. “The Kwara State Police Command remains committed to protecting lives, property and the fundamental rights of all residents, irrespective of religious or cultural beliefs,” Ejire-Adeyemi says.
The command urges residents to remain calm and provide credible information to support ongoing investigations, stressing that all allegations will be handled diligently and professionally.
