KANO, Nigeria – The Kano State Executive Council approves an extensive infrastructure and development programme valued at more than ₦6.9 billion, targeting roads, drainage systems and education projects across multiple local government areas.
Briefing journalists after Thursday’s cabinet meeting at the Government House, Information Commissioner Ibrahim Waiya outlines allocations spanning compensation, construction and social development.
According to Waiya, over ₦859 million is approved as compensation for property owners affected by a five-kilometre road project in Tudun Wada Local Government Area. Storm water drainage projects in Kano Municipal receive ₦358.5 million, while ₦896 million is allocated for repairs to a collapsed culvert in Kiru LGA.
Major road construction dominates the package, with ₦2.6 billion earmarked for the Yandodo–Mai-Allo Road and ₦1.2 billion approved for box culvert construction. The council also allocates ₦431.7 million for the Entrepreneurship Institute’s graduation and empowerment programme.
Additional approvals include funds for water pipeline extension in Gwale, classroom construction, and an anti-corruption workshop aimed at strengthening public accountability.
“The council remains focused on delivering projects that directly improve livelihoods and stimulate economic growth,” Waiya says.
The council also forwards four bills to the State House of Assembly, covering local government administration, economic planning, education reform, and the renaming of Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Dambatta.
Waiya adds that development partners present a skills-acquisition training package and donate a 32-seater bus to support programme delivery.
