AKURE, Nigeria – The Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, says it arrests 39 suspected criminals fleeing northern Nigeria following United States military airstrikes.
The Commander of the corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, discloses this on Tuesday while parading 61 suspects out of more than 100 arrested for various offences at the Amotekun headquarters in Akure.
Adeleye says the arrests reflect proactive security measures to prevent the infiltration of bandits and terrorists into Ondo State, assuring residents that surveillance and intelligence operations have been strengthened statewide.
He explains that of the suspects paraded, 50 are arrested for alleged breaches of law and order, six for kidnapping-related offences, two for violating anti-open grazing laws, and three for rape and gender-based violence. “We thank all security agencies in the state — the police, civil defence, the army, the DSS, vigilantes, and the public — for their cooperation and support,” Adeleye says.
Providing details, he says kidnapping suspects include Mustafa (34) and Philip (45) arrested in the Ofosun Odigbo area, alongside Idris (18), Ibrahim Abdullahi (20) and Lawal Idris (23) apprehended in the Isua Akoko axis.
He adds that rape and assault cases involve Daniel Ojo (19), Usman (33) and Bejide (41) in Isinkan, while armed robbery suspects Ola Tunbosun (30), Ibrahim, and Shahidu are arrested in Akure North, Oba Akoko and Oba Ile. “Investigations are ongoing to ensure that all offenders are prosecuted in accordance with the law,” Adeleye says.
