ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria’s food safety regulator, NAFDAC, issues a public warning over a recall of Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles after French authorities detect undeclared allergens that could trigger severe health reactions.
In Public Alert No. 041/2025 released on Friday, the agency says laboratory checks reveal the presence of milk and eggs, allergens not declared on the product label and potentially dangerous for people with allergies or food intolerances.
NAFDAC stresses that although the risk of the recalled product entering Nigeria remains low due to the federal ban on imported noodles, heightened vigilance is essential. “We are taking proactive measures to prevent any illicit entry or circulation of the affected product,” a NAFDAC spokesperson says, adding that food safety surveillance remains ongoing at ports, markets and distribution points.
The agency warns distributors and retailers against stocking or selling the recalled noodles and urges consumers to avoid purchasing or consuming the product under any circumstances.
NAFDAC advises Nigerians who may have obtained the noodles through international travel, informal imports or online purchases to discard them immediately to avoid health complications.
“Public safety remains our top priority,” the agency says. “Consumers and stakeholders play a critical role in safeguarding the integrity of the food supply chain.”
NAFDAC encourages members of the public to report any sightings or sale of the recalled noodles to the nearest NAFDAC office or via its toll-free number, 0800-162-3322.
The agency reiterates its commitment to protecting Nigerians from substandard, falsified and unsafe food products through regulatory enforcement, surveillance and public awareness campaigns.
