LAGOS, Nigeria – Nigeria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have signed a fresh Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at deepening defence and military cooperation between both countries.
This information is contained in an official bulletin published by the Nigerian Ministry of Information on Tuesday. The pact, signed in Riyadh, seeks to enhance joint efforts in confronting security threats.
According to the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Ahmed Dan Wudil, the agreement “will cover strategic collaboration across security, military training, intelligence sharing, defence production, and joint operations for sustainable security development.”
The MoU was signed on behalf of Nigeria by the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Mohammed Bello Matawalle, while Dr. Khaleed H. Al-Biyari signed for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Officials from both countries described the pact as “a significant step in boosting bilateral relations” and a platform to “enhance collaborative efforts in tackling emerging security challenges.”
The Defence Ministry welcomed the development with optimism, stressing that the partnership will strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to address insecurity.
It added that with renewed international cooperation, “the current security challenges in some parts of the country will soon be over.
