KOGI, Nigeria – Nigerian Army troops have rescued six abducted persons during an operation in the Ejiba and Saminaka forests of Yagba East, Kogi State, the 12 Brigade confirmed on Tuesday.
Spokesperson Lt Hassan Abdullahi said the rescue resulted from coordinated ground action supported by a police helicopter, forcing the kidnappers to abandon their victims. Five of the rescued persons have returned to their families, while one remains under medical care.
“The operation is part of ongoing efforts to tackle banditry and kidnappings in Kogi State,” Lt Abdullahi said, assuring residents that troops will continue to patrol forests, track criminal hideouts, and sustain pressure on armed groups.
The rescue follows Sunday’s attack on a Cherubim and Seraphim church in Ejiba, where a pastor and several worshippers were abducted, underscoring the continuing security challenges in the region.
