Kaduna, Nigeria – The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down a yoghurt depot and a water-based drinks factory in Kaduna State for unhygienic practices and regulatory violations.
State Coordinator Nasiru Mato explained on Saturday that the agency intensified surveillance of regulated products to ensure consumer safety and product quality. Following intelligence reports, NAFDAC officers inspected the depot and found poor sanitary conditions that risked product contamination. The facility was immediately closed as a first-line sanction.
A subsequent visit to a sachet water and water-based drinks manufacturer revealed that both Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Hygiene Practices (GHP) were compromised. As a result, the factory was also placed on hold pending corrective action.
Mato warned manufacturers to strictly adhere to Standard Operating Procedures and industry standards, stating that violations would be met with “the full force of the law.”
In a related crackdown, PUNCH Online reported that NAFDAC had recently closed two Chinese supermarkets in Jabi District and eight cosmetics shops in Wuse Market, Abuja, for breaches in labeling, distribution, and sale of regulated products.
The Kaduna closures demonstrate NAFDAC’s commitment to protecting public health, ensuring food and beverage safety, and maintaining compliance with national regulatory standards. Consumers are advised to report suspicious or substandard products to the agency for prompt investigation.
