ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government has rolled out sweeping agricultural reforms designed to lift 35 million Nigerians out of poverty and create 21 million full-time jobs by 2025, in line with the National Development Plan.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, unveiling the measures at the FAO National and Subregional Hand-in-Hand Investment Forum in Abuja, said the reforms are central to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
At the heart of the plan is a single-window platform that will cut through bottlenecks in land registration, making it easier for farmers to secure land rights.
The government will also strengthen agricultural credit systems to improve farmers’ access to capital.
“We must drive mechanisation to reduce drudgery and enhance productivity. We must strengthen the agricultural credit system to ensure capital flows to where it is needed most,” Shettima said.
Other priorities include expansion of irrigation facilities and scaling up investments in modern farm machinery.
According to the Vice President, the reforms aim not only to raise productivity but also to guarantee food and nutrition security for Nigerians. “The vehicle to this future is the quality of policies we have chosen to prioritise,” he added.
The initiatives align with the National Development Plan (2021–2025), which sets ambitious targets of achieving food security, boosting rural economies, and transforming agrarian communities through deliberate investment.
