LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of an eight-month rehabilitation project on the Lekki–Ajah corridor, one of the city’s busiest and most congested routes.
According to Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the repair works will begin on Saturday, November 15, 2025, and continue until July 15, 2026, as part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s drive to modernise Lagos’s transport network.
“The rehabilitation will be carried out in two phases to reduce disruption to commuters and businesses,” Osiyemi said in a statement on Wednesday.
Phase 1 will cover the stretch between the Lekki First Toll Gate and Second Toll Gate, divided into seven work sections. “During construction, one lane will remain open to traffic while the other undergoes repair,” he said, assuring motorists of “continuous access along the corridor.”
Phase 2 will span the Second Toll Gate to Ajah Under-Bridge, divided into four sections with partial lane closures and traffic diversions.
The Commissioner appealed for patience, urging motorists to obey traffic management officials and follow directional signs. “Some sections will be partially closed, but the inconvenience will be temporary. The result will be smoother, safer journeys for all road users,” Osiyemi noted.
He reaffirmed that the project aligns with the state’s urban mobility and infrastructure renewal plan, which also includes ongoing works on the Eti-Osa/Lekki/Epe Expressway.
Transport analysts say the overhaul could significantly reduce travel time and ease gridlock in Lagos’s rapidly expanding coastal corridor.
