Amotekun Arrests 53 Suspects, 21 Undocumented Foreigners Over Kidnapping, Others

ONDO, Nigeria – The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, has arrested 53 suspects for alleged involvement in kidnapping, murder, attempted murder, burglary, stealing and cultism, including 21 undocumented foreigners discovered in Owo Local Government Area.
Speaking during a briefing on Monday, the Commander of the corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said the foreigners were found living in two rented apartments in Owo following intelligence provided by members of the Fulani community.
According to him, the suspects claimed they entered Nigeria from neighbouring West African countries to engage in phone repairs and other menial jobs but failed to produce ECOWAS travel documents or any legal papers authorising their stay.
Adeleye expressed concern over the increasing movement of undocumented foreigners through forests and communities in the state, warning that some eventually become vulnerable to criminal recruitment after being abandoned by their sponsors.
“We discovered 21 foreigners living in just two apartments in Owo. They claimed to have come for phone repairs and other jobs but had no ECOWAS papers or legal documentation to justify their stay,” he said.
The commander also disclosed that four suspects were arrested over an alleged self-kidnapping plot in which false kidnapping claims were circulated on social media to extort money from members of the public.
According to him, intelligence gathering enabled operatives to uncover the scheme before additional victims were deceived.
In a separate operation, Adeleye said seven suspected kidnappers were arrested through a joint operation involving members of the Fulani community, leading to the recovery of a military uniform allegedly used by one of the suspects.
“One of the victims suffered deep machete wounds to the head and other parts of his body. He was rescued alive and is currently receiving medical treatment,” Adeleye said.
