Kwara Moves to Reopen Igbaja Cottage Hospital After Security Shutdown

LAGOS, Nigeria – The Kwara State Government has commenced consultations aimed at safely reopening the Igbaja Cottage Hospital following its temporary closure due to security concerns in the area.
Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Hospital Management Board, Dr. Abdulraheem Malik, said the government is working closely with community leaders, healthcare workers and security agencies to restore medical services without compromising the safety of staff and patients.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Board’s Press Secretary, Adamu Sabi, Malik reaffirmed the government’s commitment to restoring healthcare access to residents of Igbaja and neighbouring communities.
“The safety of our healthcare workers and patients remains a top priority. At the same time, we recognise the critical role the Cottage Hospital plays in meeting the healthcare needs of Igbaja and surrounding communities,” he said.
Malik added that consultations are ongoing to assess the security situation and determine the most appropriate conditions for reopening the facility.
Director of Medical Services and Training, Dr. Joseph Femi, described collaboration among stakeholders as vital to ensuring the safe and sustainable resumption of healthcare services.
Community elder, Elder Olaita Oyin-Zubair, assured government officials of the community’s commitment to supporting security efforts and creating a safe environment for healthcare workers.
Former Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Bashir Adigun, also commended the initiative, expressing optimism that healthcare services would soon resume.
