ABUJA, Nigeria – The National Aviation Stakeholders Forum (NASF) has called for the resignation of the Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo, following last week’s nationwide flight disruptions caused by industrial action.
The group said the disruptions exposed regulatory lapses and raised concerns about the NCAA’s ability to effectively oversee Nigeria’s aviation sector.
In a statement issued on Monday by its National Coordinator, Engr. Yahaya Yusuf, NASF argued that effective leadership should prevent crises rather than respond after passengers have already been affected.
“We believe the time has come for fresh leadership at the NCAA. Captain Najomo should take responsibility and resign in the interest of the aviation industry and the travelling public,” Yusuf said.
The forum also urged the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation to expand its ongoing public hearing on the five per cent Ticket Sales Charge (TSC) into a comprehensive investigation covering the collection, remittance and utilisation of the funds.
According to NASF, Nigerians deserve full transparency on the amount generated through the TSC, how much has been remitted and how the funds have been utilised.
The group further recommended the deployment of a transparent, technology-driven platform capable of tracking airline ticket sales, TSC collections and remittances in real time to eliminate disputes and improve accountability.
