ABEOKUTA, Nigeria – Ogun State has intensified preparations for the rollout of BHCPF 2.0, an expanded healthcare financing programme aimed at improving access to affordable and quality primary healthcare services.
State health officials say the revised Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF 2.0) introduces performance-based implementation, digital transparency and stronger community accountability mechanisms.
Speaking on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting involving Ward Development Committee chairmen and primary healthcare managers from the state’s 20 local government areas, Executive Secretary of the Ogun State Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr Elijah Ogunsola, said Ogun is among states selected for the rollout.
“BHCPF 2.0 focuses on performance-based implementation, grassroots accountability and digital transparency,” Ogunsola said.
The BHCPF 2.0 programme seeks to improve the delivery of the Basic Minimum Package of Health Services while advancing Nigeria’s universal health coverage agenda.
Ogunsola urged residents to request receipts for payments made at health centres, noting that approved service charges have been publicly displayed to curb unauthorised fees.
He also commended community leaders for strengthening primary healthcare delivery and urged them to sensitise residents on the reforms.
State Coordinator of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Solape Folarin, described BHCPF as a flagship financing mechanism established under the National Health Act of 2014.
“The BHCPF must be driven by transparency, visibility and accountability, as every naira spent must yield measurable results in health outcomes,” Folarin said.
