Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa announcing the integration of NgREN and TERAS digital platforms in Abuja.
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed reports of a cyberattack on the Nigeria Education Management Information System (NEMIS), insisting that the education data platform remains secure and fully operational.
The ministry’s clarification follows reports alleging that the platform had been compromised, raising concerns about the security of government-held education records.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Director of Press and Public Relations Folasade Boriowo described the claims as “inaccurate and misleading.”
“At no time was the NEMIS platform hacked, breached, or subjected to any cyberattack. The integrity, confidentiality, and availability of data on the platform remain fully intact,” the statement said.
According to the ministry, browser warnings experienced by some users resulted from an SSL certificate configuration issue rather than a security breach.
Officials stressed that no unauthorised access, data loss, alteration of records or exposure of sensitive information occurred.
“The incident was purely technical in nature and did not involve any unauthorised access to the system, data loss, data alteration, or exposure of sensitive information,” the ministry added.
The ministry said its technical team worked with hosting providers to resolve the issue promptly and restore full functionality.
